Alcohol By Volume (ABV)

Alcohol By Volume (ABV) is the measurement in which we can note how much alcohol is in any given amount. The number is a percentage and is utilized in all alcoholic drinks worldwide. The amount varies widely depending on the drink in question. Hard spirits, for example, typically fall in the 40-45% range, wine in the 12-15% range, while beer is anywhere from 3-15% and beyond depending on the style. When you hear of the “proof” that an alcohol has (typically only used for hard alcohol) it is simply just double the ABV.
